About
Long before I began writing them down, stories were finding me—in books read at bedtime, animals brought home and loved, adventures in faraway places, years spent protecting wildlife and caring for people, and everyday life on our family farm.
Now those experiences are finding their way into stories for children.
A LIFETIME OF STORIES
Stories Open Doors
Stories matter. A book can open a door to a place we've never been, an idea we've never considered, or a feeling we haven't yet learned how to name. Stories invite us to imagine, wonder, question, and see the world through someone else's eyes. They nurture curiosity and empathy—and those may be among the most important gifts we can give a child.
I've lived a life filled with adventure and discovery, but like all lives, mine has also known love and loss, joy and heartbreak, dreams and disappointments. Those experiences shape the stories I want to tell. I don't believe children need stories that pretend the difficult parts of life don't exist; I believe they need stories that walk beside them as they begin to understand them. I want to write with hope, kindness, courage, curiosity, and compassion—encouraging children to explore, care deeply, step through unfamiliar doors, and keep going. Because one thing life has taught me is that even in the most difficult chapters, there is always room for hope: if it's not okay, it's not over.
The world becomes a better place when we learn to care for one another, for animals, and for the natural world around us. Reading encourages us to explore, ask questions, notice the things others might overlook, and stay curious about the world beyond our own experiences. The books we place in children's hands today can nurture that curiosity and compassion, helping shape the thoughtful, imaginative, and caring adults they become tomorrow. Children who learn to wonder, question, empathize, imagine, and hope grow into people with the capacity to make a difference.
It starts with children. Open a book. Open a mind. Open a heart. Open a world.
